The new year has just begun, but I already have some exciting travel plans in the works. Here’s some of what you’ll be seeing on Travel Blurbs in 2015:
St. Lucia
A few months back, I posted about an amazing airfare deal that I found on FlightHub.com. For less than $200.00 roundtrip, tickets were available to several different Caribbean destinations from Newark airport. St. Lucia was one of them, and being that it’s one of my favorite Caribbean islands and airfare is normally quadruple the cost, I jumped at the opportunity.
Hotel information: Previously known as the Jalousie Plantation, we’ll be staying at the Viceroy Sugar Beach.
Florida
I’m from Florida so most of my family and friends are there, and have several trips planned to Orlando, Ormond Beach, Daytona Beach and Miami.
Hotel information: Staying with family, but if you’re looking for some amazing resorts in Florida, try Orlando Select Vacation Homes, Wyndham Ocean Walk in Daytona Beach, or Homes at 1 Hotel South Beach in Miami.
Maldives
Nothing beats an overwater bungalow and beautiful beach. The Maldives have been one of my bucket list destinations for a while now, and I’m counting down the days until I’ll be there.
Hotel information: We’ll be staying at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island.
Sri Lanka
We’ve been planning our Maldives trip for a while now, and could never really find a flight that worked with our budget or schedule. We discovered that booking a separate flight to Sri Lanka and then flights from Sri Lanka to Maldives saved us hundreds of dollars per ticket, while also giving us the opportunity to visit a new country. Sri Lanka always looked beautiful to me, but I had no idea just how amazing it was until I began planning out the details of our trip.
This Asian country just south of India is actually home to the densest leopard population in the world, and is a great place to go on safari.
Hotel information: We booked our stay and safaris with Leopard Trails in Yala National Park, and we’re really looking forward to it. In Colombo, we’ll be staying at Cinnamon Red Colombo.
Qatar
We’ll only be there for a day during a layover, but I’m looking forward to exploring the city of Doha.
Hotel information: We’ll be staying at the amazing Ritz Carlton Sharq Village & Spa.
Antigua
Another terrific airfare deal: only $180.00 roundtrip from Newark, this time found on CheapOAir.
Hotel information: We will be staying at the beautiful Carlisle Bay.
Greece
The Greek islands have been on my radar for quite some time, but airfare during the summer (which is the time to go, as it’s too cold the rest of the year) has always been so expensive. We recently found a great flight using miles, and booked our trip for this summer.
I was incredibly overwhelmed with all of the amazing islands that Greece has to offer. If it’s everything it appears to be, it may just have the potential to beat out Thailand as my favorite country.
After months of research and deliberation, we finally decided what islands we’ll be visiting this time around: Santorini, Zakynthos, Crete, and Milos.
We’re bypassing Athens completely, as I’ve heard from many that it’s not that nice of a city, and that it’s too hot and crowded in the summer. Keep this in mind if you’re booking a Greek island trip during the summer, and know that there are other (and often much cheaper) options that allow you to entirely skip Athens if that’s what you’d prefer. We have a very short layover in Zurich only, and straight from there we go to Zakynthos.
Hotel information: Hotel Strada Marina (Zakynthos), Best Western Hotel Del Mar (Milos), Charisma Suites (Santorini), Kriti Hotel (Crete)
Germany
It’s another 24-hour layover, but this summer we’ll be in Dusseldorf.
Hotel information: We will be staying at the Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf.
